EasyTree

By Thomas Quaglia and Samer Al-Khub

Forests cover about 30 percent of the world’s land area, but they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Between 1990 and 2016, the world lost 502,000 square miles (1.3 million square kilometers) of forest. Furthermore, about 17 percent of the Amazonian rain forest has been destroyed over the past 50 years. This shows that trees are dying at an alarming rate.

The goal of this project is to combat de-forestation. More specifically, to aid in reforestation efforts, and assist in responsible tree agri-business. We will create a robot that takes a user specified plot of land, measures the pH level of the soil, then plants and fertilizes a tree seed if appropriate. An auger will be used to dig precise holes in the
ground for the seeds and a plow will be used to swiftly bury them. With the previously obtained pH measurements, a heat map of the field and each hole’s specific pH reading will be produced for user consumption. This data will be viewable on any device of the
users choosing.
